Watch top EVP Pro Beach Volleyball players compete while you enjoy a day on the beach, great food and music.

We caught up to Ross Balling, President & CEO of the EVP Pro Tour, and he said, "The EVP Island Tour is a great way to spend the day at the beach watching the top beach volleyball players compete and have a chance to participate in contests!"

Annette Daniel, Front Desk Manager at the Hilton Naples Hotel and Shula's Steak House Naples, played in one of last year's events, and told us, "It wasn't easy, but it was fun; playing right next to the EVP Pro Beach Volleyball players was amazing - they make it look so easy!"

The Naples, Marco Island, Everglades Convention & Visitors Bureau hosted the 8th Annual Paradise Coast Tourism Star Awards Luncheon yesterday. Included among the more than 250 people who attended were several elected and government officials.


The keynote speaker was Dave Shula who gave an energetic, motivating talk about the importance of teamwork, supporting the theme of this year’s celebration, “Team Paradise”. Mr. Shula presented awards to many very proud and deserving recipients from the Tourism Industry. The Hilton Naples and Shula’s Steak House Naples teams were well represented with nominations including Marc VanDam for Outstanding Hotel Sales Employee, Darlene Boyle for Outstanding Hotel Front Line Employee, Niccole Haschak for Hospitality Above and Beyond, Hilton Naples for Best Strategic Partner, Lucia Stan for Rising Star. Congratulations to each of you…we are all very proud of your being nominated!


Our winner this year was selected from a crowded field of exceptional nominees in the Restaurant Exemplary Service Award category. We congratulate Tom Donahue for this well deserved recognition and it was even more meaningful for our entire organization because Dave Shula was able to participate in the award presentation. Tom, we are proud of you!

Early in the morning, right before sunrise, Naples Pier shows signs of a new day. People start lining the pier with fishing poles in the hopes of catching today's lunch or dinner. Currently mackeral & pompano are the must abundant catch of the day. Pelicans & ospreys dive straight down into the Gulf of Mexico to get their morning breakfast. Dolphin idly dive under the water as they too feed off the rich underwater offerings found in off the Naples Beaches. As I walked along the pier I struck up a conversation with Mr. McSwain who has been fishing off the Naples pier everyday since arriving in Naples in 1940. He called himself one of the old-timers & was generous in pointing out a few photo opportunities that I shouldn't miss. All of this under the watchful Eagle eye, perched high above all, waiting for his own morning breakfast at the Naples, Pier. The Naples Pier is just one of the many free things to do in Naples, FL & is an easy drive south about 6 miles from the Hilton Naples Hotel.

Things to Do in Naples This Weekend

Our peak season may be winding down & now is the perfect time to visit Naples, FL.  Plenty of great things to do in Naples this weekend! 

• Tin City is featuring CityFest on Saturday from 3-10pm.  Join us for a great afternoon & evening of family fun! Music, dancing, good food & drink, and The Tin City shops will all be open too.
• Head to Marco Island this weekend to see actors from As the World Turns, All My Children and other favorite soaps at the Southwest Florida SoapFest. The festival Saturday and Sunday will include a live play reading, a cruise on the Marco Island Princess, a celebrity bartender bash and more.
• Round up the kids for a day of fun at Celebrate Families at Cambier Park from 1–4 p.m. Saturday. Bluegrass bands will perform and children will enjoy a climbing wall, bounce house, stilt walkers, and science and art activities.
• Enjoy an evening of entertainers and a good time as Waterside Shops hosts Waterside Rocks from 4–6 p.m. Sunday. Manhattan Connection will be rockin’ at the Waterside Shops Pavilion.
• Claire Murray on Third Street South is hosting an open house from 3–5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Naples is the inspiration for Claire Murray's Coral Reef collection.
• Jeep and 4x4 Extravaganza is being held at the Big Cypress Market Place on May 15, 2010 at 9am.  Enjoy a great day with Jeeps crushing cars and a $500 prize for best Jeep!! There will be cash prizes, cookout, live music and shopping!
• Princess Diana: Dresses of Inspiration exhibit at the von Liebig Art Center

Naples beaches not affected by oil spill.  Beaches in Naples have not been affected by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico created by the accident on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig  south of Louisiana, according to the Naples, Marco Island, Everglades CVB, the official tourism deparment of Collier County. Travelers planning a trip to the Hilton Naples Hotel can check our local tourism department's Travel Updates for Beach Conditions. This page also has a link to Mote Marine Laboratory’s Beach Conditions Report, which provides daily reports on conditions at the area’s beach parks, which are all currently clean.
