Shellabrating & the Sanibel Stoop

With so many wonderful festivals and things to do in Naples, I don't always write about happenings outside of our immediate area - there are simply too many local events in Naples, Marco Island and The Everglades to talk about.  Personally, I have found shelling on remote beaches like 32nd Avenue in Naples to be quite a treasure-hunt so would think twice before heading to other cities to look for shells.
The Sanibel Stoop
However, Sanibel Island has a reputation to be the most spectacular shelling beach in the known Universe. The Sanibel week-long Shellabration provides a wonderful day-trip for visitors in the area.  Shellabration! 2012 is an island wide "Shellabration" of the 75th Anniversary of the Shell Fair & Show

Sanibel locals boasts a socially correct posture for shell-seeking aka the Sanibel Stoop, which feature one doubled over at a perfect 90-degree curve in which the posterior is the highest point facing the sky.

The 75th Annual Sanibel Shell Show & Fair will take place beginning March 1 and run through March 3rd.

Fishing in Naples & Nearby Chokoloskee on National TV

Photo courtesy: The Naples, Marco Island, Everglades CVB
Fishing in Naples and Nearby Chokoloskee is truly an angler’s paradise.  The Naples, Marco Island, Everglades CVB worked with George Poveromo and his crew to bring about a national television broadcast featuring our fishing in our destination.  George Poveromo’s World of SaltWater Fishing, a national television fishing show on the NBC Sports Channel, features an episode about fishing for multiple species of fish from Chokoloskee in the Florida Everglades.
Upcoming Viewing Schedule:
  * Friday, February 24 – 2:30 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time)
  * Featured airing: Saturday, February 25 – 11:00 a.m. (Eastern Standard Time)
  * Encore Performances: Saturday, May 26 – 11:00 a.m. (Eastern Standard Time)

An excerpt from GeorgePoveromo.com:
CHOKOLOSKEE, FLORIDA EVERGLADES – For catching a wide variety of inshore, saltwater gamefish within the 10,000 Islands region of southwest Florida’s Paradise Coast, the tiny city of Chokoloskee is in the heart of it all. In this thrilling episode, Poveromo brings down his Mako 2201 Inshore skiff – the Shallow-Water MARC, and is joined by Captain Brian Sanders, a third-generation Chokoloskee fishing veteran. Poveromo and Sanders fish various points and holes for snook and redfish and then anchor over an offshore rock pile to catch seatrout. On the way back in, they even score a tripletail! This episode vividly illustrates just how good the action can be here, along with how to successfully keep track of game fish based on tides, and catch them using the most effective rigs, baits and techniques. If you’re looking for some short cuts in learning how to catch more fish around Chokoloskee Island, this episode is just what the doctor ordered!

Southwest Florida's Largest Bridal Show

The Hilton Naples Wedding Blog recently revealed that between Thanksgiving and Valentines Day over 1 million men will pop the question; this is the time 40% of engagements take place.
Free Admission for Brides-To-Be
Are you one of the million lucky girls that said yes this past engagement season?  Wondering what to do next and where to start with the planning?

The Hilton Naples Wedding team will be attending Southwest Florida's Largest Bridal Show on Sunday February 19th.  This is a great place for you to save time & money by meeting face-to-face with wedding professionals to get ideas and keep updated on the latest trends.

Here are our Top 5 Tips to help you get the most out of attending a bridal show:

1)  Know what vendors you still need. (Hint: If you still need a venue, stop by the Hilton Naples exhibit)

2)  Contact info labels - Most exhibitors will often have drawings for prizes at their booths. To prevent having writers cramp at the end of the show prepare some electronic labels before the bridal show with your name, address phone number, email address and wedding date.  Consider setting up & using a separate bridal email account to use while planning your wedding. This can keep all the follow up emails and contact information in one location.

3)  Know your budget - Knowing your wedding budget and who is responsible for each item will help you with your decision making while you attend.

4)  Bring a camera - Bringing a camera will help you remember things you saw at the show. Here a few a few of you may consider to take a picture of: dresses during the fashion show, centerpiece/floral designs, table settings and cake designs.

5)  Bring a few of your own peeps with you - Bringing your fiancĂ©e, maid or matron/bridesmaids, mom or friends to the bridal show to help you locate the vendors you need to secure, they can save you seats for the fashion show while you are meeting with vendors and talk about wedding ideas with each other.

Most of all, Enjoy yourself! Use this time to gather information and enjoy any of the special offers extended to you. You are the Bride!

Don't forget to stop by the Hilton Naples Wedding both and say hi to Electa!

Lorenzo is Taking on the Paradise Coast with "One Woman, One Cat"

Lorenzo The Cat at the Hilton Naples Hotel
 LorenzoTheCat is the talk of the town tonight in Naples & Marco Island at the "One Woman, One Cat" exhibit opening tonight at The Marco Island Center for the Arts Le Petite Gallery.

I first became a fan & follower of Lorenzo The Cat & his mom-lady, journalist  Joann Biondi when they chose the Hilton Naples Hotel as Lorenzo's lair-on-location a few weeks back. JoNell Modys, public relations and communications manager from our local CVB, introduced Lorenzo and his mom-lady to our hotel when they came over to scout out photo locations in the Naples area. Our team was stunned at the amount of publicity Lorenzo had garnered with 18,158 Fans on Facebook and close to 4,000 followers on Twitter.

Lorenzo's mom-lady has given him the voice that appeals to cat and animal lovers from all over the globe who love to post their own pics and share stories.  Lorenzo's main claim to fame has been his affinity to wear stylish clothes and his mom-lady who likes to photograph him in his dapper digs.  The stories and people's obvious infatuation with Lorenzo make it compelling, light-hearted content to lift ones spirits.

The art gallery showing of Joann’s Lorenzo-related fine art photography will be featured this weeknd at the Marco Island Center for the Arts. A donated Lorenzo print will be auctioned off for the local For The Love Of Cats rescue organization.  Info about the exhibit can be found at http://www.marcoislandart.org/ or by calling 239-394-4221

Keep up with Lorenzo's antics and read all about Lorenzo's beginnings:
