Tours and Sightseeing of The Florida Everglades

Where you meet for the EAT Tours
The first few times I ventured into exploring about the Florida Everglades, I didn't quite get the excitement over it. I understood it was a unique ecosystem and was a local treasure and major attraction to European visitors from a tourism view point, however I just didn't "see" the big deal when I ventured down on my own to see what are The Everglades is all about.

That all changed when I was fortunate to take part of a few tours and sightseeing expeditions about The Everglades. there is so much information that isn't visible just by the naked eye that make The Everglades a fascinating place. It also matters what time of day you travel and what you are expecting to see. Local tours and sightseeing companies know where, when and what time to find the sights you are looking for. A tour guide company I've been fortunate to experience and highly recommend is Everglades Area Tours (EAT) led by Captain Charles Wright (All tours are limited to six passengers, reservations are required for all tours - you can't just "show up").
In addition to several tour offerings, Cap't Charles is now offering a new nature photography tour: Everglades Nat'l Park Birding, Wildlife & Photo Expedition. The boat, limited to six passengers with comfortable seating, is a large, stable platform for birding and photography. There is space for a camera tripod so you can bring large telephoto lenses. The naturalist guided eco-tour has daily outings and lasts 3.5 hours.  The tour leaves out of Everglades City (Chokoloskee).  Cost is $149.95 per person - kids under 12 are 1/2 price.  This trip is great for all Ages and Experience Levels.

Cap't Charles also runs the Boat Assisted Kayak ECO Tours.  Every day and every tour is certainly different as each trip is tailored to the group and the natural environment of the day ... no trip is "canned" and the wildlife and the days conditions are just that … wild. However, you can expect to encounter a wide variety of the Park's wildlife - manatees, dolphins, sea turtles, bald eagles, ospreys, herons, egrets, roseate spoonbills to name a few. Imagine paddling next to a manatee or a dolphin!!!  The naturalist guided eco-tour has daily outings and lasts 3.5 to 4 hours. The tour leaves out of Everglades City (Chokoloskee). Cost is $149.95 per person - kids under 12 is $79.95. This trip is great for all Ages and Experience Levels - Stable, Easy and Quiet

What a great way to spend your summer vacation!  So where is The Everglades and how do you get there when you are visiting Naples?

Guests of the Hilton Naples Hotel can request a map from the front desk.  The drive is about 45 miles and takes approximately one hour.

CityFest in Full Swing in Downtown Naples Florida

Hilton Naples Hotel CityFest Downtown Naples Florida CityFest is off to a rocking start following their signature Sip of Fifth event on Friday night.  I was able to join in the festivities and there was no lack of attendance. Great music on every corner - I had the pleasure of absorbing it all while dining at Ristorante D'Angeli on Fifth Avenue South. We loved the great band (sorry I didn't get their name) just outside the restaurant as my 5 month old daughter took it all in with shiny wide eyes and an occassional one-toothed grin. What I enjoyed most about the event was watching the people dancing in the streets from young in age to young at heart.

Looking ahead at their agenda, a couple of great upcoming events in downtown Naples Florida:

Wednesday, 5/9 -Palette to Palate at Crayton cove welcomes everyone to enjoy six studio galleries that will have their doors wide open with pleasure.  In between galleries, enjoy special menu offerings from Bleu Provence, Chez Boet and the Dock Restaurants from 5:30-9:00pm

Speaking of the Dock:
Hilton Naples Hotel Great Dock Canoe Race Downtown Naples Florida
Saturday, 5/12 - The 36th Annual running of the Great Dock Canoe Race kicks off from 11:00am-3:00pm.  Join residents and visitors alike to this fun, unique event that kicks off near the Dock Restaurant in Crayton CoveThis year's theme is "Animal House" so you can be on seeing some very colorful & imaginatively decorated canoes and participants.
