Earth Hour 2016: What is it?

"Our actions today will decide what tomorrow looks like for the generations to come."

Every year around the end of March, people all around the world participate in an activity called Earth Hour. This year it is taking place in March 19th from 8:30 PM-9:30 PM.
If you have never heard to Earth Hour, the Hilton Naples has taken part in giving a little overview of what it is & how you can make a difference.

What is Earth Hour?
Earth Hour is when for one hour citizens turn off all non-essential lights for one hour. Turning off all non-essential lights represents our commitment to the planet. This is organized by the WWF & was started in Australia in 2007.

What are some lights that can be safely switched off?
Overhead lights in rooms, outdoor lights that do not impact safety, decoration lights, tvs, desk lamps, or any other lights that will not affect the public safety are the lights that should be off.
If you are participating at home, remember to set up some nightlights or have flash lights ready for you and your family members to see during the night.

What are some lights that cannot be switched off?
Safety lights in public areas and security lights should not be off during this hour.

Even if turning off your lights for one hour does not seem that it makes a difference, in the long run it does. For more information you can visit Earth Hour's website here.
